11th of September in Catalunya

In 1714, precisely on the 11th of September, Barcelona signed the capitulation to the preponderant Franco-Castilian troops leaded by Philip V of Bourbon, that laid siege to the city for over a year, concluding one of the most important episode of the War of the Spanish Succession.
The Catalans have chosen exactly that anniversary, namely a defeat, as their national holiday, la Festa per la Llibertat. Every year, in fact, on the 11th of September, in occasion of the Diada Nacional de Catalunya the Catalan people remember those who, 300 years ago, fought and gave their lives to defend their right to be a people.
